about me
I’M RYAN VELTING, A COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN MICHIGAN, SPECIALIZING IN PRODUCT, PORTRAIT AND 360° PHOTOGRAPHY. FOR OVER 20 YEARS, I’VE CREATED IMAGES FOR BUSINESSES THAT LOOK RIGHT, WORK HARD, AND HOLD UP IN THE REAL WORLD.
I care a lot about doing things well.
Part of that shows up in the final image, but a lot of it shows up in the way I work: how I communicate, how I prepare, how I solve problems, and how seriously I take the details that most people never see. I’ve always been wired that way.
Over the years, that’s grown into a way of working that blends creativity with structure. I want the images to look strong, of course, but I also want the process to feel clear, thoughtful, and dependable for the people trusting me with their brand, products, or project.
I’m based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and most of my work today centers around commercial product photography, 360° product photography, and portraits for brands and professionals.
Some projects are simple. Others are technical, detailed, and built around larger systems. I enjoy both, especially when the work calls for equal parts precision and creativity.
Outside of work, my family and I stay involved in our community, and I care a lot about investing in people as much as projects. That has included supporting local organizations like Mel Trotter Ministries and being invloved with myTeam Triumph, and encouraging younger photographers and artists who are still finding their footing. When I’m not in the studio or on a shoot, I’m usually spending time with my wife, kids, and our two very energetic dogs, or out mountain biking, hunting, or fishing.
Usually, still paying attention to light.
Built for Creative Work, Technical Detail, and Real-World Demands
Over the years, my work has grown into more than just creating strong images. A big part of what I do now is building workflows that help clients handle product photography in a way that’s organized, repeatable, and actually useful once the shoot is over.
That matters even more when the work involves technical products, larger catalogs, 360° spins, or product lines that need to stay visually consistent across dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of SKUs.
I care about the final image, of course. But I also care about everything around it:
consistency from one product to the next
file structure and delivery that make sense
clear communication throughout the project
systems that reduce mistakes and save time
imagery that works in the real world, not just in a portfolio
Whether I’m photographing a single product for a startup or building a workflow for a much larger catalog, the goal is the same: create images that look right, function well, and support the business behind them.
Where My Work Shows Up
Over the past year, the majority of my professional work went into a single large-scale project: thousands of SKUs, 360° spin imagery, and catalog photography for a major manufacturer, built for use across their websites, distributor networks, product packaging, and national retail platforms including Amazon, Lowe's, The Home Depot, and Menards.
That's one end of what I do. I also create marketing photography for major sporting events. Yearly I shoot the Amway Riverbank Run, Grand Rapids Marathon, the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, multiple Ironman events across the country, and Tris for Health race events including Michigan Titanium triathlon. My portrait and documentary work has been used by Under Armour and ESPN. And closer to home, I've worked with businesses across West Michigan on everything from product catalogs to corporate portraits to location photography.
