Our portrait style

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE

With our lifestyle approach to portrait photography, we’re very flexible to client needs, brand guidelines and styles.

TYPES OF PORTRAITS WE PHOTOGRAPH

Portrait Uses

We shoot a lot of portraits, and love working with portrait clients. Portraits are what we do most often, what we excel at.

Personal Branding

We shoot a lot of portraits for personal branding. Sometimes in the studio, often on location, personal branding photos need to show your personality, sometimes your interests, and need to look great!

Social Media

So, you’re a social media influencer or someone with a large social media following. Maybe you’re just trying to gain followers. Whichever the case, stand out from the crowd with incredible photos.

Advertising

Starting a new business? Launching a new product? Maybe you just need great photos for advertising your current products and services. We love shooting photos for advertising and marketing.

Models

As a working or aspiring model, your comp card is your business card, which needs to be current, polished and most importantly, represent YOU. Let’s shoot and make your comp card look great!

Sports

Sporting event photography, photos for sports brands, and sports-related items are areas we have tremendous experience with. In the studio, at the gym, or in the woods, we love sports photography.

Corporate

Annual reports, company websites, brochures, even photos for internal use. We love corporate photography projects, and are very accustomed to working with businesses of all sizes.

SO YOU WANT TO SHOOT WITH US

What to Expect

Whether it’s your first time in front of the camera, or you’re an experienced model, we’ll guide you through the shoot, helping you look your best!

Our shoots will leave you with incredible images, knowledge for future shoots (even if it isn’t with us), and have you looking forward to your next photo shoot.

First, we love to have a good time during shoots, and find that natural conversation and helping you become comfortable in front of the camera is key to capturing great photos.

Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident while shooting with us, which will translate to natural expressions and great images.

As we shoot, we’ll be guiding you through every step along the way.

Our shooting style and feedback will leave you empowered for future photo shoots. We’ll discover things like what side is your best (yes, most people do have a “good side”), head and body positioning, facial expressions and even what colors you photograph best in.

Our goal is to leave you with incredible images you’ll be proud of, and have you looking forward to shooting with us the next time you need photographs done.

GETTING READY FOR YOUR SHOOT

Before the Shoot

You’ve scheduled a portrait session with us, and have questions about hair, makeup, wardrobe, and what happens after the shoot. Let’s talk!

LOCATION

We have many locations around West Michigan that we’ve shot and are familiar with that should suit most photo shoots. We’re also open to places that are new to us.

Location shoots can be complicated, and we want to have a plan in place well beforehand. If the shoot is on location, expect to communicate with the studio often in the weeks leading up to your session.

WARDROBE

For wardrobe, our main advice is simply this - If you love it and are comfortable in it, bring it. If you are confident in what you’re wearing and like how it looks, you’ll end up with images that reflect this.

For personal use photos (personal branding, corporate headshots, etc.), we typically recommend avoiding small patterns, or anything too “busy” as the focus should be on you, not necessarily on what you are wearing.

Please read our Portrait Guide for more info.

HAIR & MAKEUP

We get a lot of questions regarding wardrobe, hair and makeup, and skin prep leading up to a shoot. We’ve put together a portrait guide to help answer some of those questions. If you have questions, please contact the studio.

ACCESSORIES

With jewelry, Usually less is more and we suggest keeping it to a minimum. For personal use photos, you are the subject of the photograph, not your clothing or accessories.

For earrings, small simple studs are usually best. Necklaces, again, simple is best and we’d suggest avoiding chunky necklaces.

If you wear eyeglasses, we’d recommend bringing multiple options, if you own more than one pair. Glasses have different coatings and some don’t photograph as well as others. Multiple pairs give us some options.

Please read our Portrait Guide for more info.

Portrait Guide

Our goal is for your shoot to go smoothly, for you to be comfortable, and to create amazing photos with you. We’ve created a detailed Portrait Guide with our recommendations for portrait sessions.
