Dakota - Senior Photos
LOCATION PHOTOGRAPHY | SENIOR PHOTOS
Project Overview
Meet Dakota - a senior from Caledonia, Michigan. Dakota has cerebral palsy. I’ve known Dakota for a very long time, and have photographed him since he was a small boy. My wife and I met Dakota and his wonderful family through a race ride-along program for physically challenged called myTeam Triumph. My wife has done countless races with Dakota and myTeam Triumph over the years, and I’ve been there photographing him, along with the rest of the participants and volunteers.
Dakota is a special kid, and when asked by his mother if I’d consider doing his senior portraits, I was humbled and excited.
Photographing those with disabilities is both incredibly rewarding and challenging. Not everyone’s motor control is the same, so extra time, patience and understanding goes a long way toward getting some great photos. And laughter. We joked and laughed a lot during our time shooting, as seen in quite a few of his photos. =)
Over the course of four afternoons, we shot at four locations in West Michigan, including Holland Beach and Whitecaps Stadium. His love of life, and of sports is infectious, and we had an incredible time at each of the four locations, giving him and his family what I hope is a great selection of photos to choose from.
Dakota and family, thank you for trusting me to photograph you. It was an honor.
