Project Overview

I had the opportunity to photograph a young couple on the beach for a couples session. Shooting at the beach creates an opportunity to capture the couple against a stunning natural backdrop. The beach, with its horizon, sand, and waves, provides an ideal setting for a relaxed and beautiful portrait session. The natural light at sunset creates a warm, golden hue that beautifully complements the couple's skin tones and enhances the overall mood of the photos. By carefully choosing the right angles and compositions, I tried to highlight the lighthearted fun and connection between the couple, making the session both memorable and visually striking.

During these couples photography sessions, I always encourage the couple to interact naturally with one another, and to have fun together and with me. I believe that the best portraits come from genuine emotions—shared laughter, a gentle embrace, or a simple walk along the shoreline. These candid moments truly bring out the authenticity of their relationship. I also love to incorporate elements of the beach, like the water, rocks, or dunes, to add depth and creativity to the portraits. Sometimes, I suggest bringing props like a blanket or beach chairs to make the session feel even more personal and comfortable.

To ensure a successful couples session on the beach, I put a lot of thought into the planning process. Timing is key, so I always aim for the golden hour, and into the blue hour, to get the best lighting. I also keep a close eye on the weather to avoid any surprises during the shoot. Wardrobe is another important aspect, and I often suggest simple outfits and colors that complement the beach setting. I typically lean toward simple, natural colors free of logos, brand names and color patterns.

For this portrait session, the couple was looking for a subtle vintage film color. While using both modern and vintage lenses, then using film emulation during the editing stage, I was able to provide them with wonderfully modern photos, while keeping the color of vintage film. Again, the effect is subtle, and I gave them a few different variations.

With a combination of technical skill and thoughtful planning, my goal is to create timeless portraits that beautifully capture the love and connection shared by the couple in such a stunning natural environment.
